If you have to teach your kids to clean up after them do it yourself first and then see how they watch you and follow in your footsteps, that's exactly what we did at the #lakeclenup that was conducted by Ourbetterplanet.com at the Seetharamapalya lake in Whitefield, Bangalore!
Grateful to parents who came out with their kids, kids who came out by themselves to help us clean the pathways and do the waste segregation, we collected and dumped all the waste in one place, with the help of some guidelines received from Refillable we could segregate the paper waste, plastic waste and multi layer plastic separately.
We shortlisted Seetharampalya lake as their is significant work that's already happening their by neighbouring societies and their is a deep interest to make it more inhabitable for the migrating birds as well as to give the kids a place to breathe fresh air and enjoy a clean environment.
What's missing is complete awareness about #littering and how harmful it can be for everybody involved, its a thoughtless practise that increases the load on the planet, if we can be more vigilant of where and how we dispose our waste half the problem can be solved. OurBetterPlanet's ethos are ingrained in creating awareness and enabling the community to follow in the footsteps so that we can create a better tomorrow.
Going at it consistently is top priority right now and the mission is to make the lake free of significant plastic waste so that the migrating birds consider it as their home at least in the future, the fishes in the lake don't die due to the filth in the lake and the kids who come to the lake with their parents have a pleasant visit and are motivated to be active outdoors!
The idea is to grow our community of warriors who helped us clean the lake, also to create awareness about #nolittering , so if you consider it a good use of your time and are motivated to work towards a better and cleaner future for our kids do join us at the upcoming drives!
